Safer Communities Ministry (SCM) is a not-for-profit corporation that provides transitional programs for the Criminal Justice System as well as chaplaincy services for the Union County Jail. SCM partners with churches, religious organizations, community and government service providers, businesses and civic groups in Union County NC. Our mission is to break the recidivism cycle, producing safer communities. SCM provides practical teaching to inmates, ex-offenders, those suffering with addictions, and their families.

SERVICES

  • Life Skills Program
SCM conducts ongoing life skills and job readiness training sessions inside the Union County Jail for inmates who choose to participate. The seven-week course equips each inmate with the necessary tools needed to be Godly men and women of integrity and character. Course curriculum includes: character development, goal setting, anger/stress management, proper marriage and family relationships breaking the bonds of addiction, job search/readiness, etc.

  • Education
Dementia-specific education and training is provided to assist families to better understand the disease and the progressive changes that could occur. Common topics include behaviorial management, safety in the home, caregiving coping strategies, and caregiver self-care and well-being.

  • Second Chance RE-Entry Network (SCREEN)
SCREEN is a community-wide project we provide to the incarcerated and ex-offenders. The program helps our clients reach goals for employment, education, substance abuse counseling, finances, and transitional housing.

  • Solace Care Center
The Solace Care Center is a transitional center for our clients transitioning into the community. We have a computer lab for those seeking employment. We also provide free counseling service. Our counseling, seminars, and life skills training are a safe haven and resource center for those in need of healing.

  • Addiction Recovery Ministry (ARM)
SCM has partnered with the Addiction Recovery Ministry to offer a confidential and safe recovery based program for addicts, ex-offenders, and their families. We have six programs divided between Union, Stanly, and Richmond counties. The mission of ARM is to lead those affected by addiction and poor decision making into the knowledge of freedom only Christ can bring. Mentors who have experienced God's transformation meet weekly with participants to study God's word, pray, and to experience loving and caring fellowship. SCM and ARM want to reach addicted families before one is imprisoned, divorced, sinks into poverty, or experiences death. Contact us to attend one of our locations in Anson, Richmond, Stanly, and Union counties at 704-283-3573.

  • Youth Out Reach
SCM is answering God's call to reach out to the youth in our community that have a parent who is an addict and /or incarcrated. If we can reach these children, we have a tremendous opportunity to keep them from following in their parent's footsteps.

  • Volunteer Program
SCM recruits and trains volunteers who have a passion for ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ to the "least of these." To volunter visit our website at www.safercommunities ministry.org
